Dulera Inhaler: Prescribed To Treat Asthma
Dulera Inhaler is a common prescription medication that is prescribed to prevent symptoms of asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) in people 12 years of age and older. Dulera contains two medicines – mometasone furoate and formoterol fumarate – that when combined provide the patient with an open airway.
Dulera is typically taken twice daily, but only take it as prescribed by your doctor.
Important Safety Information & Side Effects:
- Dulera does not replace rescue inhalers for sudden asthma attacks and similar symptoms. Always have your rescue inhaler medicine with you to treat sudden symptoms.
- Dulera is not intended for adults and adolescents with asthma who are under control with an asthma control medicine, such as a low to medium dose inhaled corticosteroid (ICS) medication.
- Dulera contains formoterol. LABA medicines such as formoterol when used alone can increase the risk of hospitalizations and death from asthma-related problems. However, Dulera contains an ICS and a LABA. When an ICS and LABA medicine are used together, it is not shown to increase risk in hospitalizations and death from asthma-related problems.
- Individuals taking Dulera may have a higher chance of infection and should avoid exposure to chickenpox or measles. If you experience worsening of existing tuberculosis, fungal, bacterial, or viral infections, contact your doctor immediately.
- Do not use Dulera more often than you have been prescribed, and do not take Dulera with other medicines that contain a LABA, as using too much LABA may cause chest pain, increase or decrease in blood pressure, headache, weakness, tremors, nervousness, dizziness, seizures, fast and irregular heartbeat, and electrocardiogram changes.
- There is a potential for yeast infection in the throat or mouth – rinse mouth out with water after each use.
- Children using Dulera may experience slower growth
- Possible eye problems including glaucoma or impaired vision
- Inflammation of the nose, throat, and sinuses.
- Headaches
Is there a Dulera generic available?
- There is no generic form of Dulera and it looks like the manufacturer has patents on the drug through 2020. Please note: Do not buy medications from fraudulent, unreputable online pharmacies. These pharmacies may claim to have a generic form of Dulera but the medication could be harmful and a counterfeit. Ask your healthcare provider for advice on purchasing your medications.
